Carlo Robelli W-4102EQ Acoustic/Electric Guitar
The W-4102EQB is proof positive that you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a great sounding acoustic/electric guitar. Everything about this instrument looks, feels and sounds like guitars costing much more. This guitar sounds great plugged or unplugged. Start with the select spruce top – essential for great acoustic tone – ringing highs and full-bodied lows. The rosewood fingerboard plays fast and easy and the built-in EQ-505R preamp lets you tailor your sound to suit your style with volume, bass, mid and treble controls. The battery check is a nice added feature. The W-4102EQ looks great as well thanks to the beautiful transparent black finish with binding on the neck and body. Sealed chrome tuners complete the package.
Carlo Robelli W-4102EQ Acoustic/Electric Guitar Reviews
NOT BAD. NOT BAD AT ALL!
I am an active novice musician and hobbyist. I play music from Bright Eyes to Rod Stewart to John Lennon to Robert Johnson. What do you expect from an acoustic-electric less than $150; I will tell you what to expect. I was playing outside the other day waiting for my class to start. This guy came up to me and said ‘he loved the sound of my guitar.’ He asked me what type of guitar I had. I told him I bought this guitar for less than $150. He was shocked and immediately asked me for a cigarette. I guess he was a little embarassed. The tone of this guitar is to die for. The action is a bit high but i’ve seen higher action from some higher priced Takamines. If you are a beginning guitarist it really doesnt matter what type of guitar you buy as long you are practicing. I’ve seen some musicians who play with some high priced Taylors that do not do anything with them. At the same time I’ve seen very very talented musicians who use $150 guitars cause its all they could afford.
Warning: The action may be a little high and may discourage you from playing. But then again Stevie Ray Vaughn’s action on his guitar was incredibly high. Just bring the guitar somewhere and have it lowered if it really bothers you. I recommend that you change the strings. and the plastic to bone while you are at it. Have the bone sawed down with sandpaper or sand it down yourself. But always remember not to get discouraged. You will develope some hard earned calluses and you will thank yourself later in life for not banging up a really expensive guitar. This guitar is especially good for playing delta blues. You wanna play Son House; this a cheap alternative to buying a resonator. Just buy a slide and you are ready to go. I have had this guitar for a year and it is still alive and kicking. Its been banged around and dropped and still maintains the incredible sound when i first got it.
Good Sound, to a point
When I got this guitar, I thought it was a great bargain, because it sounded great and looked nice, too. However, there are problems with this guitar. The action is set WAYYY to high, meaning the strings are too far off the fretboard. This makes playing difficult sometimes. I realized that I could only learn how to play guitar to a point with this guitar. For example, a clean barre chord is almost impossible; the strings are just too high. Also, if you strum with a little force, there is a strange buzzing noise from within the guitar…I still haven’t figured out where its coming from. At any rate, let me recap:
–This guitar IS a good beginners guitar, it is cheap and has a nice sound.
–Be warned, it does buzz, at least mine did, and the strings are too high.
–It does look nice. The finish tends to show off finger smudges a lot though. You may want some guitar cleaner.
–A helpful tip for first-time guitar buyers: it helps to actually play the guitar before you buy it.
However, if you do want this guitar, I give it 3 stars, because it does have OK quality. It just had some problems. The action IS a big problem if you actually want to go somewhere with guitar. I recommend you buy a cheap guitar such as this, and then buy a nicer guitar of better quality if you want to get really good.
